My name is Taffryne, shoppekeeper of Midnight on Memory Lane, and it is my absolute delight to welcome you to this week's gathering of Tokusatsu Thursday featuring Kamen Rider MY-TH!

As the title of this post says, we're going to be talking about the third episode of the Toei Tokusatsu Series, Kamen Rider MY-TH

I humbly present my thoughts for your enjoyment and consideration. Accordingly, please mind that there will be spoilers ahead!

Episode 3 ~ The Black Cat Rider of Righteousnyess

"THE NEW MISSION IS TO BATTLE WITH MY-TH?! CODENAME, RID! TATSUOMI RIDES INTO THE FRAY!"

Recollection

• Tatsuomi goes to the 12 Animals' base and receives his own Seed X-Egg and DATT's belt to use against the Fukashigi (and MY-TH)
• Kamuri dubs him with the name "RID" as in "to get rid of MY-TH"
• TIGRE takes Tatsuomi to give him a harsh lesson in fighting with his new abilities and belt
• Yuna stumbles upon a lost child who says she saw a screeching monster take her father
• Flashback to Kamuri fnding Tatsuomi as a child in a destroyed village (point in time unknown)
• DATT and JYAO are feeling quite upset and bothered by the loss of her belt and the privileges that Kamuri grants to others instead of them
• Yuna and Otosumi take in the child, Shiori, and promise to bring her father back to her
• Otosumi goes out to defeat the Fukashigi while Tatsuomi spies on him
• Tatsuomi transforms into RID for the first time, officially becoming the black cat and starts to fight MY-TH and the Fukashigi
• Although RID defeated the Fukashigi, it came back to life and escaped somehow
• Otosumi returns home and feels guilty about failing that day (Yuna doesn't help, but she apologizes)
• Flashback to child Yuna making a promise of something with her parents before their car got wrecked
• Yuna tells Otosumi that they have to fix it because the girl's father promised to come home
• Tatsuomi writes his owl-mail report to Kamuri about the fight with and failure to defeat the Fukashigi

Right off the bat, I think there's a chance for those "weird souvenirs" to become far more significant in the later plot. Chekhov's Tchotchke.

I would also like to take time to appreciate that the super secret door is literally just a sliding puzzle game in a random forest that anyone could stumble upon. Sure, it's a lot of forest to cover and they'd have to figure out the mechanic, but...it's just a simple lock, that's all I'm saying.

The brotherly relationship between RID and TIGRE is so cute. Obviously in a group of 12 people, there's going to be some who are closer to others, so it's nice to see that Tatsuomi has a buddy (even though JYAO and DATT don't much care for him). In the broader picture, it's also just humourous to watch them squabble like children for Kamuri's approval.

I'm glad he's learning about his powers, but jeez did his face look beat up once he came out of the fight...also, where the heck does he live if he's not with the 12 Animals???

Speaking of Tatsuomi and Kamuri...just when is he from? The flashback showed him in rather traditional clothes and village ruins, so, I'd assume it's from a while back? I'm curious to know more. I'm even more curious to know if RID making his voice so much deeper is specifically to emulate MAO/Kamuri...Maybe that's why his attacks are also red even though his colouring is yellow? Unless it's determined by the egg colour?

Additionally, we now have two cats. We already saw that there can be multiples of the same eggs, but in terms of the 12 Animals, do "junior members" always take on the animal of their mentor? I would assume to become an official member you need your own specific animal. If RID is the black cat and MAO is the red cat, does this mean that animals can repeat as long as the colours are different? ALSO WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH THE SPECIAL RED BELT BIT?!

I'll be brief for the Fukashigi design because euhguehugehu too many eyeballs. No. NO. NO. Whatever the hell a "right-eye Fukashigi" is can stay in the depths of nowhere near me.

THAT HURTS. Good grief does that hurt. I can't...as someone with my own unfulfilled promises and who sees a lot of "flashbacks" in her job...that hurts so much.
